Trojans Storm Lady Bruins 6-0 in Exhibition

Team prepares to open 2016 regular season on Saturday

Four second half goals crippled the Lady Bruins as they fell 6-0 to the Anderson University Trojans in the final preseason match before the beginning of the 2016 season. "We didn't collectively bring the game we needed to against a very good Anderson team," Bruins Coach Chris Carmichael said. "We weren't playing with confidence or exerting our will in any part of the game and we just let them take it to us."

The Lady Bruins were coming off a strong start to the preseason with a 3-1 victory over Southern Wesleyan University. As the took the field at Alumni Stadium, they hoped to continue that momentum against Anderson University, an NCAA DII program.

From the outset, the Trojans came out strong and battled for possession. They were able to force the Bruins into several defensive breakdowns which opened up scoring lanes in the attacking third. One of those defensive lapses allowed the Trojans to get on the board 1-0. Khalila Hargrave carried the Trojans offensively was a headache for the Bruins defense throughout the night. The Trojans chipped in one more goal to go into the break up 2-0.

In the second half, the Bruins were looking to regroup and try to get something going offensively. Instead, the Trojans continued to assert their control and take away possession. Early on in the half, the Trojans increased their lead off a corner kick goal to make it 3-0. Hargrave scored her second goal of the match just minutes later with a rocket shot just inside the box to make it 4-0.

From there, the Trojans continued to push offensively while keeping the Bruins offense in check by limiting shots. As the final buzzer sounded, the Trojans had won in convincing fashion 6-0.

"When a good team is starting to press at you it is a safe zone to pull back instead of push forward," Coach Carmichael said. "That's what happened to us tonight. We just lacked any kind of creativity and flow. But I told my team after the game that we'll be ok and we'll be better for playing this game. We can't control what happened out there tonight but we can control how we learn from this. I know we'll be fired up and ready for Saturday.

The Lady Bruins kickoff the 2016 season on Saturday afternoon as they welcome Ohio Christian University at 4 p.m.
