Lady Bruins Ground Eagles 51-45

The Lady Bruins gained their third victory in the last four games as the team remained undefeated in region play with a win over Pensacola Christian College 51-45.

"I was really impressed with our defense tonight," Bruins Coach Mike LeViere said. "We rebounded well and even though we weren't firing on all cylinders offensively, our defensive effort helped us get the win tonight." 

The Bruins played incredible defense, holding the Eagles to just 10 points in the first half. The Bruins came out with a high pressure press defense, which the Eagles struggled to get by as PCC committed 14 turnovers on the night. The Eagles applied tough defense of their in the second quarter, holding the Bruins scoreless for the first 7 minutes of the quarter. In a low scoring game, the Bruins took a 21-10 lead into the break. 

Pensacola came storming back in the second half behind the play of Alyssa Loudermilk. The Eagles outscored the Bruins in the third quarter, and doubled their first half point total with 20 points in the quarter. It was a five-point game heading into the 4th quarter, but the Bruins continued to apply the pressure. Down the stretch, the Bruins were able to find an answer each time the Eagles mounted an offensive run as they held on for the 51-45 win. 

Sarah Thomsen had a double-double for the Lady Bruins, tallying 13 points and 11 rebounds. Hannah Thompkins went 4-8 from downtown to finish with 14 points and Kylee Leffew added 8 points and 7 boards. Not only did those three players post solid numbers, but the Bruins also had seven different players score throughout the course of the game while connecting on 9 three-pointers as well. 

The Bruins also won the rebounding margin 44-34, while forcing the Eagles to shoot just 15% from behind the arc. The team held on for their 9th victory of the season, pushing their record to 9-10 with an impressive 5-0 record in region play. Next up, the Lady Bruins will welcome Voorhees College on Tuesday in the Davis Field House.
