From the opening kickoff, the Bruins and Eagles traded possession as both teams had limited scoring chances in the first half. Both defenses stood strong as they turned aside opportunities and made it difficult to create scoring lanes. As the first 45 minutes of play ended, the two teams were locked in a 0-0 tie.
"I felt like we had some good things going in the first half," Bruins Head Coach Jesse McCormick said. "We just needed to finish some of the opportunities we created."
In the second half, the Bruins came out with a lot of energy as they were fueled by the hometown crowd. Just a minute into the second half, the Bruins broke into the scoring column as defenseman Danyon Moore bent a beautiful cross into the middle which was headed home by Andrew Peterson. The Bruin faithful erupted as BJU took a 1-0 lead.
The celebration was somewhat short-lived as the Eagles came back with the equalizer just seven minutes later. Joshua Briones took advantage of a quick counter to beat Bruins' keeper Andrew Kester with a low shot into the left corner to tie the match at 1-1. Both teams would end regulation time with the score 1-1.
Throughout both extra time periods, the Bruins and Eagles exhanged scoring opportunities but neither was able to get the golden goal. After both periods of extra time were played, the two teams ended in a 1-1 draw.
Andrew Peterson picked up his 4th goal of the season while Andrew Kester made 10 saves on the night. The Bruins and Eagles were even in shots with BJU leading 18-17 in the margin. With the draw, the Bruins improve to 4-9-1 on the season.
After the match, the team took time to honor the four seniors on the squad. Marvell Lareche, Jared Simmons, Andrew Kester and Lee Nichols were recognized for their career with the team.
"All four of those guys were fully committed to the team on and off the field," Coach McCormick said. "We've been really blessed to have them as part of our program."
Next up, the Bruins will be on the road on Saturday October 21 as they battle Johnson and Wales University in Charlotte, North Carolina.
