The Bruins took the field against highly ranked Georgia Gwinnett College and fell 3-0 on Tuesday night at Alumni Stadium. The loss marks the sixth in the last seven games for the team. The Bruins knew that they were going to have to come out strong and it just didn't happen in the opening 15 minutes of the first half. The Gwinnett Grizzlies scored three goals in the first twelve minutes of the contest and ripped as they took control. Left Back Sagi Hirsch assisted two of the goals and Grizzlies forward Andrew White scored a solo goal to propel the Grizzlies out front.
The Bruins were sent reeling after the first couple minutes, but the team was able to recover and settle into a rhythm of play. The Bruins were able to hold off the quicker Grizzly attackers as they ended the half down 3-0.
As the second half began, the Bruins played better as the team got acclimated to the pace and physicality of the Grizzlies. The Bruins got several good opportunities on goal in the second half getting four shots in comparison to just one in the first. The possession also started to increase as the team fought hard on defense and got the ball out quickly to feet on the outside. The Bruins were saved a couple times in the first and second half by keepers Isaac Landry and Andrew Kester as each came up with several big saves for the team.
Despite their chances, the Bruins weren't able to find the back of the net as they fell to the Grizzlies 3-0. "I was very happy overall with the end of the first half and all of the second half on how we moved the ball," Bruins Head Coach Jesse McCormick said. "We have to be able to come out and bring it during practice as we prepare for regionals."
With the loss, the Bruins fall to 4-11-1 on the season as they end their regular season of play. The team will await final seeding as they prepare for the NCCAA DII South Regional Tournament next week. The tournament will be at Bob Jones University. The Bruins will have to be at their best as they look to capture their first region championship.
