Davis and Daulton Fuel 5-1 Rout of Eagles

Box Score
The Lady Bruins soccer team picked up their first region win of the 2017 season as the team routed rival Toccoa Falls College 5-1 in Toccoa, Georgia. With the win, the team improves to 5-7 on the season.

"It was a good competitive match for us," Bruins Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "We know Toccoa always plays us hard and we know we'll see another great match from them when they come to our place in a couple of weeks."

The Bruins came into the game on the heels of a 2-1 win over Truett-McConnell University on Saturday. As the two teams took the pitch, the Eagles fans were out in full voice for Homecoming as they hoped to win over the two-time defending national champions.

It didn't take long for the Bruins to find the scoring column as the team possessed well from the opening kickoff to move the ball into the attacking third. Abby Davis gave the Bruins the lead as she scored on an unassisted goal to make the score 1-0.

Later on in the first half, Bruins forward Kayla Romeiser made a run on goal but was fouled in the box as the Bruins were awarded a PK. Anna Daulton confidently took the shot and scored to stretch the Bruins lead 2-0. The Eagles tried to counter, but couldn't seem to penetrate the Bruins defense as BJU took a 2-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Eagles came out and rode the energy of their home crowd as they looked to claw their way back into the game. They would find a break as they moved the ball into the attacking third. After an Eagles player fell, the Bruins defense slowed thinking a foul would be called. Instead, the Eagles took advantage of the opportunity and netted a goal to cut into the Bruins lead 2-1.

"They came right back at us," Coach Carmichael said. "They pressed our net and were able to find a goal."

The Bruins regrouped and went back to their strong possession game as they looked to increase their slim lead. Mikayla Rajcan would help the Bruins do just that as she split the defense on the dribble and fed Abby Davis with the ball. Davis calmly finished the play with a beautiful strike to put the Bruins up 3-1.

The team wasn't done as they scored again just minutes later. Lauren Foushee fired a shot from just outside the box which was deflected by the Eagles' keeper. The rebound went right to Anna Daulton as she scored her second goal of the match to increase the lead 4-1.

Kaitlyn Hummel put the exclamation point on the Bruins win as she beat her defender on the outside and scored with a strong left-footed strike to give the Bruins a 5-1 lead. The Eagles couldn't seem to find an answer as the match ended.

"I was proud of our team and the way they played," Coach Carmichael said. "We lost our composure for a bit there to begin the half but we were able to regroup and get back to our style of play."

Abby Davis notched her 5th and 6th goals of the season while Anna Daulton's pair of goals put her at 4 on the season. With the win, the Bruins improve to 5-7 on the season. Next up, the team will return home as they host Talladega College on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
