Lady Bruins Bounce Back with 65-60 Win

Box Score
The Lady Bruins got back to their winning ways on Friday afternoon as the team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 65-60 win over Agnes Scott College in Montgomery, Alabama.

"It was a really good game for us," Bruins Head Coach Mike LeViere said. "We played a great first half and everyone contributed. It was a great game for us to learn and work through some things."

The Bruins entered day two of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic hosted by Huntington College. The Bruins had dropped a game last night in a 73-60 loss to LaGrange College. The Bruins were able to shoot 44% from the field and won the rebounding margin 38-32 in the game.

Rachel Clark hit back to back three point shots to get the Bruins on the board as the team jumped out to a 11-1 lead. The Bruins continued to take advantage of their offensive opportunities while limiting the Scotties defensively. After a three-point shot by Madison Shupe and a layup by Faith Hart, the Bruins closed out the quarter with a 23-13 lead.

In the second quarter, Rachel Clark again provided the three-point touch as she put the Bruins up 28-17. The Bruins continued to hold strong defensively and limited second chance opportunities with good rebounding. As the team went into the half, they held a double digit lead 39-23.

As the second half began, the Scotties tried to chip away at the Bruins lead. Each short run was answered by the Bruins as the team remained consistent offensively. With just under three minutes in the quarter, Julia Simmons scored three straight baskets for the team as the Bruins closed out the quarter with a 53-38 lead.

With one quarter to play, the Scotties knew they were running out of time to catch up. A late ASC run cut the Bruins lead to 60-55. Again, the Bruins offense found a way to get points when they needed it most as the team made shots and free throws down the stretch to hang on for a 65-60 win.

"The team had fun and worked hard tonight," Coach LeViere said. "That's a great way for us to be. Now it's time for us to get rested up for a tough test tomorrow."

Sha'Ron Brunson was a perfect 4-4 from the field as she finished with 10 points in the game. Sarah Thomsen was the only other player in double figures for the team with 10 as ten different players scored points for the team. With the win, the Bruins improve to 3-3 on the season. Next up, the team will complete their three-game Alabama road trip with a game against host Huntington College on Saturday.
