Paladins Coast past Lady Bruins 93-46

Box Score
The Lady Bruins fell in another tough road contest on Tuesday night as the team lost to Furman University 93-46. This was the 3rd NCAA DI opponent the Bruins had played in the past seven days as the team dropped to 4-7 on the season.

"We just didn't start well tonight," Bruins Head Coach Mike LeViere said. "We turned the ball over and Furman is too good of a team to have that many turnovers. We were definitely overmatched and it showed particularly in rebounding. Overall, I was happy with our shot selection and we shot a pretty good percentage."

The Paladins knew they had the advantage in the post and the team went right to work against the Bruins with back to back buckets in the paint. The Bruins had trouble keeping the ball as the team committed four turnovers in their first six possessions of the game. This led to a Paladin run as Furman jumped out to a 16-2 lead. The Paladins continued to attack the rim as they closed out the quarter strong to lead 29-10 at the end of the first.

In the second quarter, the Paladins jumped out with a 12-0 run to extend their lead. Turnovers continued to plague the Bruins as the team struggled against the full court pressure defense. A few offensive bursts were all the Bruins could muster as they went into the half trailing 47-20.

The Bruins came out looking to cut into the lead as Sarah Thomsen and Sydney Bedsaul knocked down three pointers from beyond the arc to narrow the margin. The Paladins again used their inside game to get second chance opportunities and layups around the rim. At the end of the third quarter, the Paladins had put the game out of reach leading 73-34.

With one quarter to play, the Bruins were determined to close out the game strong. Madison Shupe hit two three pointers for the Bruins but the Paladins answered each Bruins basket with one of their own. As the final buzzer sounded, the Paladins took a 93-46 victory.

"Our team is going to be better for this stretch of games," Coach LeViere said. "Playing teams of the level we have for the past week really stretches us and makes us play at a higher level. We want to learn all we can from it, forget the negative, and get ready for the next one."

Faith Hart led the Bruins in scoring with 12 points on the night while Sydney Bedsaul finished with 9. The Paladins controlled the rebounding margin 54-28 while forcing the Bruins into 25 turnovers on the night.

With the loss, the Bruins fall to 4-7 on the season. Next up, the Lady Bruins will play their first home game of the season December 9 as the team welcomes Brevard College to the Davis Field House. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
