Although the Bruins shooting team was the only team in the collegiate category, they gained valuable experience as they competed in a South Carolina/Georgia state match at the Athens Rifle Club in Athens, Georgia. The event was hosted by the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation.
"This was a great competition for our student-athletes," Bruins Coach Mike Wilkie said. "We had good times on each shooting run and I expect we will only get better."
The tournament field had over 40 competitors representing three states as the Bruins competed in the 9mm pistol and .22 pistol categories. The event gave the Bruins a feel of the shooting pressure and timer they will have to face in upcoming events.
Next month, the Bruins shooting sports team will compete in a national match in Alabama against some notable programs such as Texas A&M, West Point, Universities of Kentucky, Michigan State, Florida, Florida State and more.
The results from the tournament will be posted over the next few days. The Bruins shooting team is in their inaugural season of competition. Next up, the team will compete in the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) Nationals in Talladega, Alabama on March 11.
