Moritsch Captures Top Honors as Shooting Sports Team Dominates SC State SASP Match

The Bruins shooting sports team competed well in their final tune-up before the SASP Nationals event as the team captured several top spots at the SASP match in Belton, South Carolina on Saturday.

"This was our first time holding this match at the Belton Gun Club and was a big success," Bruins Head Coach Dan Seibert said. "We had teams from Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina. I am proud of our team and the way they competed in this event."

Tyler Moritsch led the way for the Bruins as the senior captured the top spot in the Centerfire Pistol category with a time of 44.61. Moritsch also spearheaded a great finish in the team category as he was joined by Brandon Jackson, Simon Wilkie and Jonathan Urwin and the group finished 1st overall in centerfire.

The team wasn't done as John Morrissey, Connor LeViere, Alexis Canen, and Bryce Parker finished 2nd in the centerfire category. Since the Bruins served as the host for the event, the team also served in a variety of capacities from range safety officers and scorekeepers to help the match run smoothly.

"To have our team compete well and also have such a willingness to help and serve others was encouraging to see," Coach Seibert said. "We are also thankful to several organizations who made contributions to help support the event in so many ways."

Next up, the Bruins will compete in the SASP Nationals event on March 14 in Talladega, Alabama.
