Wildcats Spoil Lady Bruins Senior Night 91-69

Box Score

It was a bittersweet night for the Lady Bruins as the Bruins honored their lone senior Hannah Tompkins. Since transferring to BJU in 2012, Tompkins has been a key part of the women's basketball program.

"Hannah is a wonderful lady both on and off the court," Bruins Head Coach Mike LeViere said. "She has been an excellent example of what we want every BJU student-athlete to be like."

Tompkins has been a great teammate and student during her time at BJU, but she has also seen much success on the basketball court. She is the all-time leader in 3-point field goals made and is looking to become the second Bruins women's basketball player to score 1,000 points. She is currently the second highest scorer in Bruins history with 979 points scored in her career.

"Basketball is all about competition and building relationships," Tompkins said. "I'm thankful for all the friendships I've made during my time here and the opportunity to compete."

Aside from senior night, the Bruins struggled in the game as they shot just 28% from the field throughout the night. The Wildcats were firing on all cylinders and seemingly couldn't miss as they knocked down tough shots over the Bruins defense. JWU jumped out to an early 11-1 lead and kept pouring it on throughout the first half.

The second half story was much of the same as every Bruins run was answered by the Wildcats as they continued to stretch their lead. Freshman Kylee Leffew led the way for BJU scoring 15 points and grabbing 7 rebounds on the night. Sha'Ron Brunson and Madison Shupe each scored 13 points and senior Hannah Tompkins finished with 7 points in her final home game at the Davis Field House. The Wildcats ran away with a 91-69 victory on Tuesday night.

"It was not our best shooting night to say the least," Coach LeViere said. "We will have to execute our offensive schemes more efficiently in our next game. Having said that, I do like how we are playing right now and we just need to focus on moving forward and leaving this poor shooting night behind us."

The Lady Bruins will be back in action on Thursday as the NCCAA DII South Regional Playoffs begin in Toccoa Falls, Georgia. The team earned the #3 seed for the tournament and will face #6 seeded Piedmont International University.
