Turnovers Plague Lady Bruins in Loss to Wildcats

Box Score

Shooting struggles and turnovers plagued the Lady Bruins on Tuesday night as the team fell to Johnson and Wales University 73-51 in the Davis Field House. The loss moves the Bruins to 12-14 on the season.

"If you aren't shooting well you have to do all of the little things well," Bruins Head Coach Mike LeViere said. "You have to out-rebound them and you have to beat them on turnovers. Tonight, they beat us in rebounding and we had too many turnovers. Still, we'll learn from this."

The Wildcats jumped out of the gate on an 11-2 run as it took the Lady Bruins five minutes to score their first basket. Still the team was able to close out the quarter strong as they trailed 14-12 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Bruins continued to struggle from the field as the team shot just 5% from three-point range early on. Still, the Bruins stayed in the game behind a good defensive effort in forcing the Wildcats into tough looks. Sha'Ron Brunson sparked a rally to straight three-point plays to help the Bruins close the half trailing 28-24.

As the second half began, the Bruins came out hoping their shooting woes would improve but the team still struggled to score. The Wildcats pushed the tempo and were able to drive through the lane for points. The third quarter finished with the Bruins still trailing 49-40.

With one quarter to play, the Bruins looked to battle back and take the lead. Instead, the Wildcats went on a 14-3 run to put the game out of reach. The Bruins committed 29 turnovers in the game as they fell 73-51.

Sha'Ron Brunson led the Bruins with 11 points while Lauren Smith and Madison Shupe each had 10 points. The Bruins shot 34% from the field including 20% from three-point range. The team also shot just 42% from the free throw line going 8-19 from the line in the game.

Next up, the Bruins will be on the road Thursday night against Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa, Georgia.
