The Bruins baseball program will play their inaugural season this Spring as the program announced the
2021 season schedule. The Bruins will open the season on February 12 on the road and will play their home opener on February 20 against Montreat College.
"Many people have been involved for several months and even years in the planning and preparation of this program and for that I am very thankful," Bruins Head Baseball Coach Brent Casteel said. "It's so exciting to see it change from a vision to reality. My guys are working very hard to prepare themselves for the upcoming season. We can't wait to be on the field together in the spring."
The Bruins baseball program was announced in 2018 with Coach Casteel hired soon after to become the program's first coach. Since the announcement, the Bruins have been building the program in recruiting, fundraising and securing a home field for competition.
The Bruins will play their home games at Conestee Park in Greenville, South Carolina. This stadium served as the home field for the Greenville Braves (AA affiliate of the Atlanta Braves) from 1984-2004. During that span, notable greats such as Tom Glavine, Chipper Jones, Andruw Jones, and David Justice all played for the Greenville Braves. The Bruins athletics department has been working in conjunction with Greenville Parks and Recreation to revitalize the stadium.
"We're thankful that the Lord opened this opportunity for us to have a great home field location to start our program," Bruins Director of Athletics Dr. Neal Ring said. "We're also thankful for the Greenville County and those who have been working tirelessly on our behalf to make this vision a reality."
The Bruins will play nearly forty regular season games in their inaugural season. After playing four games on the road to begin the season, the Bruins will play their home opener on February 20 as they welcome Montreat College for a doubleheader.
The Bruins will compete in the NCCAA conference this season, which has a uni-division format. The team will play 16 region games over the course of the season including opponents such as Columbia International University, Trinity Baptist College, Johnson University (TN) and Toccoa Falls College. The Bruins will look to qualify for the NCCAA World Series which would be hosted May 21-25, in Easley, South Carolina.
Coach Casteel and the Bruins coaching staff have been working hard to recruit as the team embarks on their first season of competition. The Bruins will open the season on the road on February 12 as they begin a three-game weekend series against Truett-McConnell University in Cleveland, Georgia.
