The Bruins baseball team will wrap up the regular season this weekend as the team plays a three-game series against Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville, Florida. The two teams met earlier this season in Greenville with the Eagles sweeping the Bruins at Conestee Park.
In game one of that series, the Eagles scored six runs in the first two innings to take an early lead. The Bruins tried to battle back, but managed just four hits in an 11-3 loss. Game two had a similar story line with the Eagles scoring seven runs in the 1st inning and the Bruins again couldn't battle back in a 14-7 loss.
The series wrapped up in game three as the Bruins looked to come away from the weekend with a win. Rommel Acosta smacked a three-run homerun as part of a four-run 1st inning for the Bruins, but the Eagles battled back to keep the score close. It looked as though the Bruins would take game three as they pushed the lead to 8-4 in the bottom of the 5th. The Eagles came roaring back with eight runs in the top of the 6th inning as they went on to complete the sweep with a 12-9 win in game three.
The Bruins enter this weekend series at 4-23 on the season. The Eagles were on a hot streak winning 10 of their last 11 games, but the team dropped three straight last weekend against Edwards Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida.
Game one of the series will get underway on Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. The teams will then play a doubleheader on Saturday with games at 12 & 3 p.m.
