The beach volleyball team fell 4-1 in their first dual of the day against Lincoln Memorial University but picked up their second sweep versus LaGrange College today as the team went 1-1 on the day down in LaGrange, Georgia.
"This weekend has been a great opportunity for us to grow as a team and to grow as teammates," said Head Coach Vickie Denny.
It was tough conditions to start the day as the Bruins saw frigid temperatures and snow flurries at the beginning of their match against Lincoln Memorial University. Each of the pairs fought to the very end with two pairs of the Bruins playing through three sets. It was once again the number five pairing that would result in a win as Bailee Hunger and Caitlyn Benson came up big for the Bruins as the team fell 4-1 in their first dual of the day.
With little turnaround and not much time to rest, the Bruins went back to the sand to face LaGrange College. Like yesterday, the Panthers could only field three pairs so the Bruins only needed to win one match in order to win the dual. It was a strong showing as the Bruins won three straight match wins to go 5-0 despite some tight scores. After today's duals, the Bruins have improved to 2-6 on the season.
While the temperatures did increase throughout the day, the wind proved to be tricky and the team had to adapt and play in less than ideal circumstances. "I am proud how the girls embraced the elements and just played the ever-changing game," said Coach Denny.
"We are still moving some players around and trying to find the best combinations and putting pairs in the right sports," said Denny. "With such a short season, we will need to regroup quickly and get ready for next week's matches."
Next up, the beach volleyball team travels to Laurinburg, North Carolina to face St. Andrews University and Truett McConnell University on Friday and Saturday.
