The beach volleyball team closed out their inaugural season on a high note taking home two wins against Sandhills Community College and Spartanburg Methodist College. With today's wins, the Bruins finished their inaugural season with a 6-11 record.
"What a great way to finish out our beach season with three strong wins over the weekend," said Head Coach Vickie Denny.
In their first meet of the day, the Bruins once again swept the Sandhills Community College Flyers 5-0. Four of the five Bruins pairs won their matches in straight sets. Hannah Prince and Caroline Smith fell in a close 20-22 first set. They battled back in the second set to force a third set where they came away with the 15-12 win helping to give the Bruins the 5-0 sweep.
"We got to see growth and development as we played Southern Methodist College at the beginning of our season and now at the end," said Denny.
With a quick break, the Bruins headed back to the sand to play Spartanburg Methodist College. After falling 3-2 in yesterday's duel against SMC, the Bruins looked to switch the score in their final match against the Pioneers. After pairs 5 and 3 took their matches, it all came down to the 4's pairing of Faith Black and Katelyn Landkrohn as they needed the win to secure the team victory. The pairing found their rhythm, and won their match in straight sets giving the Bruins their first 3-2 win over the Pioneers.
"Looking back over our inaugural season, we are thankful for each player who was willing to take the time and effort to learn a new sport in a relatively short period of time," said Denny. "We all learned a lot about ourselves, our teammates and the sport. God stretched us and blessed us in so many different ways."
