From the back campus of Bob Jones University, the men's cross country team wrapped up their regular season with a second place finish at the Bruins Invite. Saturday morning's race saw six teams and over 40 runners compete in the 8k meet.
"Today was a great race for us," said Head Coach Ken Roach. "I wanted us to relax and have fun today as we get ready to ramp up the next couple of weeks. This is a tough course to race, but we look to keep that confidence and momentum as we train this next week."
Finishing fifth overall and first for the Bruins was Sol Shafer with a time of 27:38. Less 10 seconds later was teammate Marc Johnson who finished eighth overall at 27:47. Joseph Grassmid was the third Bruin to make it over the finish line as he stopped the clock at 28:24. Trenton Goldsmith and Levi Gerbitz stayed close throughout most of the race and finished the race at 28:53 and 28:59 respectively.Â
Also racing for the Bruins was Daniel Kyle, Andrew Sarver, Luke VanDenBerghe, and Seth Cordes.
The Bruins finished today's 8k with a team time of 2:21:43 and 46Â points to come in second behind Columbia College.Â
Following the race, seniors Sol Shafer, Joseph Grassmid, Trenton Goldsmith, and Seth Cordes were recognized for their hard work and dedication to the program.Â
Speaking of the seniors on the cross country team, Coach Roach said, "they're going to be missed in the huddle. They've had a tremendous ripple effect and that's going to carry on. I'm proud of them for buying into what we're doing here."
Up next, the Bruins continue to prepare for their trip to the NCCAA National Championship in Warsaw, Indiana where they look to contend for another national title.Â
