The postseason continues for the Bob Jones University women's soccer team as they prepare to compete at the NCCAA DII National Championship tournament at the Austin-Tindall Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Florida. After winning the NCCAA DII South Region Championship, the women's soccer team enters this week's tournament as the #1 seed.
"The team is excited for the opportunity to represent our South Region at nationals this week," said Head Coach Chris Carmichael. "We have worked incredibly hard this season and individually will go into each match with definable objectives to collectively help us to be successful."
Four teams will make the trip to Florida with the tournament seeding as follows:
- #1 - Bob Jones University (Greenville, SC)
- #2 - Great Lakes Christian College (Lansing, MI)
- #3 - Southwestern Adventist University (Keene, TX)
- #4 - Crown College (Bonifacius, MN)
The Bruins open the tournament with a 12 p.m. kickoff on Thursday against #4 Crown College.
"Although we play the fourth seed first, Crown has an incredibly good team and play a very tough regular season and really are a first or second seed level team," commented Carmichael. "They have speed, are able to sustain a high press, and have quite a few players that can lace the ball from distance and we are going to have to be at our best to move on."
Thursday's match will mark the first meeting between the Bruins and Polars. Bob Jones enters the week after sweeping the South Region tournament. Gabriela Gonzalez has been an offensive threat leading the Bruins with 17 goals and 6 assists. On the other end of the field, the Bruins defense has held strong only allowing nine goals this season.
The Polars come into the tournament 8-10-3 on the season. Emma Domka leads their team with six goals and two assists. Their goalkeeper Rachel Fuller has started in each game making 145 saves and seeing 45 goals against for a 2.19 goals against average.
Following the result of Thursday's match, the Bruins will go into Saturday to play in the third place game or the national championship where they will face either #3 Southwestern Adventist University or #2 Great Lakes Christian College. BJU has yet to face Southwestern Adventist and has only met Great Lakes Christian on the field once back in 2021.
"We are confident and have been playing very well and will give maximal effort to help towards having success. God has blessed us with an amazing team and we are excited to compete this week."
The Bruins look to add to their season successes as they battle for their sixth national championship title in Kissimmee, Florida.
