The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) has named Bob Jones University men's track & field athlete Brian Sims as the National Player of the Week for Division II.
"It was a tremendous effort by Brian at the Trojan Opener. He ran his 400 meter very smoothly," said Head Coach Ken Roach. "The biggest compliment for him is how he encourages his teammates and keeps himself humble. I am looking forward to see how he performs at the Raleigh Relays this week."
Last weekend, the men's track & field team made the trip to Anderson, South Carolina to participate in the Trojan Opener. In the 400 meter event, Brian Sims ran a impressive race to finish first in a field of 41 runners. His time of 47.94 set a new program record for the Bruins and sees him on top of all NCCAA 400 meter runners. He also participated in the 4x100 where he and his teammates clocked a time of 43.94 seconds.
With his performance, Sims qualified to race at this week's Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State and will represent the Bruins in the 400 meter event.Â
This is the first NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week honor for Sims and his team this season. The Student-Athlete of the Week award is chosen by the NCCAA and recognizes the play of student-athletes in their respective sport.
BJU is a provisional member of NCAAÂ DIIIÂ and an NCCAA member. The Bruins feature 15 varsity programs and over 200Â student-athletes.
