The Bruins beach volleyball team closed out their first weekend on the road with two losses in their Saturday duals. The Bruins opened the day with a 4-1 loss to the University of Lynchburg before falling 5-0 against Carson-Newman University. With today's results the Bruins are now 0-4 to start the season.
"Today was disappointing in that we didn't start strong against a team we thought we could compete with," said Head Coach Vickie Denny. "We are seeing our new players working hard, learning, and getting better. Now we need our returners to step up and use their experience to help get some pair wins as we go into another competitive week."
Bob Jones came into today's pair of games looking for their first win of the season after falling to both St. Andrews University and Carson-Newman University on Friday in Laurinburg, North Carolina.
The Bruins were looking for close competition against Division III school University of Lynchburg. The pairing of Sophia Vosburgh and Holly Taylor pulled out the only win as they topped the Hornets 21-18 in their first set followed by a 21-15 win in set two. Unfortunately, no other pair won their match as the Hornets bested the Bruins 4-1 in the first dual of the day.
Back on the sand for their second dual of the day, the Bruins were looking for redemption as they faced Carson-Newman University in their second match of the weekend. But the Eagles came out victorious as they swept the Bruins to see the 5-0 win.
Next week, the Bruins are back on the road as they travel to Cleveland, Georgia looking to pick up their first win of the season.
