Men's Cross Country Team with Solid Showing at Furman XC Invite

It was a solid showing for the Bob Jones University men's cross country team as they competed across town at the Furman XC Invite Saturday morning. The men ran a 6k distance and competed against top NCAA DI programs like Furman University, University of Tennessee, and Clemson.

"Overall I am extremely proud of the team's effort," said Head Coach Ken Roach. "It was a very competitive field of teams which caused some grouping separation at our disadvantage. Despite this, both teams still positioned well and placed great. We really needed this type of event for our season preparation."

As the race began, the pack began to separate and the Bruins saw themselves battling it out against Southern Wesleyan University,  Gardner-Webb University, and USC Beaufort.

Sol Shafer was the first runner from the Bruins to cross the finish line as he raced to a time of 20:36.9. Coming down the straightaway was freshman Joel Betres-Mena who finished several seconds ahead of a Clemson runner at 21:22 before Joseph Grassmid (21:42), Marc Johnson (21:58.9), and Levi Gerbitz (22:16) closed out the top five scoring spots for the Bruins.

Trenton Goldsmith was next to cross the finish line followed by Daniel Kyle, Andrew Sarver, Justin VanDer Berghe and Seth Cordes.

At the conclusion of the Furman XC Invite, the Bruins saw themselves in 6th place with 189 points. Full results from Saturday's 6k meet can be found here

Up next, the Bruins will mae the trip to Fairburn, Georgia to participate in the Asics Invitational on September 30.
