The men's cross country have won the NCCAA DII National Championship for the 9th straight time with their race today in Warsaw, Indiana!
"This championship is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and unity of this team," Head Coach Ken Roach said. "Each runner and all the Bruins fans that showed up today were key in the victory. The seniors on the team rose to the occasion and lead this team to this title."
The team effort from each runner today led to them winning the title again. Senior Evan Seaman crossed the finish line first for the Bruins and 4th overall with a time of 27:43 earning his first All-American award. Coming in next for the Bruins was Trenton Goldsmith with a time of 28:22 finishing 7th overall and earning his second All-American recognition. Joel Batres-Mena and Marc Johnson defined teamwork today as they ran most of the race together finishing at 13th and 15th overall with times of 28:52 and 28:55. To round out the Bruins top five was Daniel Kyle finishing 17th overall with a time of 29:14. Levi Gerbitz, James Baer, Luke Vandenberghe, Ian Flynn, and Botond Berces finished the Bruins race all finishing inside the top 45.
"This title isn't just for today, though," said Coach Roach. "It's for all the alumni and our university's legacy and it continues a benchmark for what is possible through athletics. We acknowledge this race as a chance to place God above all things like a trophy. We have these moments only by His grace and the gifts that He gives these athletes."
To add to the celebration, Head Coach Ken Roach was named the NCCAA National Coach of the Year.
Today, the dynasty continues, and tomorrow these runners go back to work for a strong track season and a potential 10th straight national title next season.
