Box Score The Bruins went on the road against the Wesleyan College Wolves and came away with a 60-42 win.
"Tonight was one of the rare games where we didn't win very many statistical categories but we took good shots and won on the scoreboard," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "A team doesn't win too many games that way but we did play some really good defense and forced a lot of shots that provided opportunities for us to rebound."
The Bruins started hot in the first quarter and took an early 11-2 lead in which they never looked back. They extended their lead even further going into halftime up 39-17. Coach LeViere kept a steady rotation and every player on the Bruins played at least 15 minutes. In the second quarter, the Bruins shot over 50% from the field while the Wolves struggled to make shots due to the tough Bruins defense which held them to only shooting 10%.
"Our decision making tonight was really good overall," said Coach LeViere. "We made good reads and set up our teammates for good shots, but the turnovers came when we made the read but didn't execute the play correctly. We are going to get better at that!"
The second half of the game remained steady for the Bruins keeping their lead. The third quarter was one of struggle to score points on the offensive side for the Bruins, but the defense held the Wolves to only 8 points in the quarter. While the Bruins got outscored in the second half, they still came away with a big 60-42 win.
Anna Layne Wilder led the team with 18 points, all of which from three-pointers as she shot 6-13 from three point land. Keely Price followed her up with 16 points of her own and an astounding 20 rebounds! In all, the Bruins connected on 12 three pointers which really helped them to keep the large lead.
After the game, Coach LeViere pointed out the importance of growing and learning as a team: "It was a great game for us to grow and learn. That's our theme right now. We are getting better every day and want to be better tomorrow because of what we did today."
The Bruins play next at home in the Davis Field House on Friday, November 22 at 5:00 p.m. against the Carolina Christian College Centurions.
