Bruins Baseball Falls in Season Opener at MACU

Box Score
The Bruins baseball team made their first appearance of the season tonight against the Mid-Atlantic Christian University Mustangs. The team got off to a strong start and held a multiple run lead through five innings, but the Mustangs six runs in the sixth caused a collapse and the Bruins would lose 11-9 in the season opener. Senior outfielder Riley Ramsey finished with two home runs tonight to help get the Bruins on the board as he drove in multiple RBI.

The Bruins started out the evening scoring three runs in the first inning to take the early lead behind a starting lineup that featured five freshmen. They further extended their lead by scoring another three runs in the second inning and through three innings the score would remain 6-0.

The Mustangs wouldn't get on the board until the bottom of the fourth inning with a pair of runs to cut the lead down to 6-2. The fifth inning remained scoreless for both teams, but the Mustangs really poured on the coals in the sixth as they hammered in six runs to take the lead from the Bruins. After the sixth inning ended, the Mustangs had a 8-6 lead.

In the top of seventh, the Bruins were able to get a man around to score and make it a one run game. The comeback attempt by the Bruins wouldn't be enough as the Mustangs scored three more runs in the bottom of the eighth to extend their lead 11-7. In another attempt to make a comeback, the Bruins managed to score two more runs, but it wouldn't be enough. The Bruins fell 11-9 to the Mustangs after nine innings.

The Bruins continue the series with the MACU Mustangs tomorrow afternoon in a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
