The Bob Jones University baseball team made their way to Toccoa Falls, Georgia for a Saturday doubleheader against NCCAA South Region rival Toccoa Falls College. After falling in a 5-16 decision in game one, the Bruins looked to rally in game two but a walk-off grand slam by the Screaming Eagles saw them fall in game two with a final score of 8-11. With today's results, the Bruins now sit at 3-15 on the year.
As today's games got underway in Georgia, the Bruins looked to make something happen in the top of the first inning. But a putout at second sent the Bruins back to the dugout empty.Â
After Toccoa Falls tallied one run in the bottom of the first inning, the Screaming Eagles went on a tear as they recorded 13 runs in the second. BJU responded with a run in the top of the third as Evan Walker doubled to send Kyle Prouse across home.Â
The Bruins recorded five more runs in the top of the sixth inning to finish with five runs. Their late rally wasn't enough as they fell to Toccoa Falls 5-16 in game one of the day..Â
Game two got underway shortly after. Down 2-0 early, the Bruins looked to go on a run in the top of the third inning. Kamden Lance doubled to score Conley Burk and Evan Walker to tie the game. Stinson Draper's single pushed the Bruins to the 3-2 lead. With two Bruins on base, Sam Gonzalez walked to load the bases and bring up Chad Bayne. In Bayne's at bat, he singled on his first pitch to score Pablo Austin. As Zay Brandt went to bat, he doubled to left field to send two runners across home plate to end the top of the third inning with the Bruins leading 6-2.Â
Bob Jones, continued to play well at their next time at the plate. Two Bruins crossed home plate to add to their lead over the Screaming Eagles.
Toccoa Falls looked to rally in the bottom of the fifth inning as they recorded six runs to cut at their deficit.Â
As the final inning came around, the Bruins needed to hold strong. With two outs on the board and the Bruins still leading 8-6, the Screaming Eagles sent a runner home to cut the lead to just one. With bases loaded and two outs still on the board, Rylan Smith of Toccoa Falls hit one out of the park for a walk-off grand slam to put the Screaming Eagles on top 11-8.Â
Up next, the Bruins will travel to Cleveland, Georgia for a Tuesday afternoon game at Truett McConnell University.Â
