After a short day of rest, the Bruins are off to another away game against the Montreat College Cavaliers. Over the weekend, the Bruins split with Paine College winning one and losing the other to improve their season record to 2-11. Montreat enters the matchup with a 10-13 record when they finished their own weekend series against Bluefield University out of Virginia. The Cavaliers currently hold a 4-0 record over the Bruins in the all-time series.
The last series between the two programs was during the early parts of the 2023 season. Montreat swept the Bruins during a doubleheader that was played in March where the first game ended 8-2 and the second game ended 12-3.
Montreat College is part of the NAIA and competes in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. Several of their conference opponents include Truett McConnell University, Kentucky Christian University, and Bluefield University. This past Thursday, Montreat finished a doubleheader against Bluefield University where they dropped both games 19-7 and 2-1.
The Bruins played in a doubleheader of their own on Friday against Paine College. They traveled to Augusta, Georgia for what was supposed to be a three-game series, but the ensuing rain forced the teams to cancel their final game of the series.
During the doubleheader, the Bruins split with the Lions. In game one, Henry Wallach pitched a complete game giving up eight hits, but the Bruins errors would cost them the game in a 5-3 loss. Game two was a completely different story for the Bruins as they hammered out 14 hits and found 12 runners crossing home plate. Joshua Legnard also pitched a complete game allowing eight hits himself, but with fewer errors and a high-powered offense, the Bruins picked up the win 12-4.
