Bruins XC Opens the Season Under the Lights

The Bruins cross country teams began their season last night under the lights in the Bruins XC Night Classic.

"It was a very exciting race for the team under the lights and being at home," Head Coach Ken Roach said. "The atmosphere was electric and it was a great way to open the season."

The women's 4k race was first at 8:15. The Bruins finished 2nd place overall with among good competition with a total time of 1:28:49. Joanna Lain was the first one through line for the Bruins finishing 10th overall with a time of 17:05 with Joy Hast right behind her at 17:08. Kristen Dodds ran a good race finishing 17th overall with a time of 18:02. Hannah Cohen and Naomi Mendoza rounded off the Bruins top five with times of 18:12 and 18:20.

The men's 6k race started right after at 8:45. The men's team also finished 2nd place overall with a total time of 1:47:43. Evan Seaman led the pack for the Bruins finishing 5th overall with a time of 20:47, which is a personal record in the 6k. Marc Johnson sneaked into the top ten with a time of 21:13. Joel Batres-Mena and Trenton Goldsmith came next for the Bruins with times of 21:39 and 21:54. To round out the Bruins top five is freshman James Baer finishing at 22:08 and 28th overall in his first collegiate race.

"Both the women's and men's teams ran extremely well," Coach Roach said. "Walking away with a great finish really sets this team up for the season. I know the team is excited to get back to racing next week."

Up next for Bruins cross country is the Queen City Invite next Friday, September 13 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
