Bruins Outplay South Region Rival Eagles for the Road Win

Box Score Even with some sporadic Floridian rain, the Bruins did not slip away from the mission and beat the Pensacola Christian College Eagles 2-1 on the road.

Going into the match, the stakes were clear: the winner will most likely be the top seed of the region, if not the nation. The Bruins understood the game plan and executed well. After some initial attacks by the Eagles in the beginning of the game, the Bruins were able to settle in and have much more possession. That possession led the Bruins to out-shoot the Eagles in the first half with 10 shots, three of which were on goal. On the defensive side, Justin Sealey, Sam Gaddis, Reid Burgin, and David Issa all did a great job spoiling the chances that the Eagles had. With both teams coming up empty, the halftime score was 0-0.

At the start of the second half, everyone knew the match was not going to end 0-0; it depended on who could possess the ball more and create cleaner chances. That was the Bruins. However, the boom-ball tactics for the Eagles did work out once, and that's how they opened the scoring.

After the Bruins went down 1-0, they stayed calm and continued to play their game, and it worked. In the 66th minute, the Bruins won a free-kick about 25 yards from goal. The automatic decision was to let the freshman phenom Bucky Provenzano take it. As anticipation grew, Provenzano found the back of the net for yet another electric free-kick goal to tie it 1-1. The Bruins continued to push the gas on the offensive side and won another set piece, this time a corner kick. After pinball action in the box, Asher Aurednik connected with the ball and scored the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute.

For the remainder of the match, the Eagles tried to claw their way back into it, but the Bruins did not let them. They gained a massive 2-1 win on the road.

The Bruins are back on the pitch next Saturday, October 25 when they travel to another south region opponent Toccoa Falls College for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff.
