The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) has named Bob Jones University Sport Administration & Coaching graduate student Conley Burk the DII Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for baseball.
"He deserves this recognition," Head Coach Kyle Morrison said. "Every time he stepped to the plate, it just felt like he was going to do something to help our team. To be able to do what he did against the good pitching we faced was very impressive."
Burk and the Bruins traveled down to Trinity Baptist College last weekend where Burk had a career weekend in the three games played against the Eagles. In the 7-3 game one win, he went 3-3 with a walk, two singles, and a home run. He was credited with three runs batted in and also scored one himself. In game two, he was hit by a pitch and ended up going around the bases to score a run. Burk then ended the weekend with one of the best offensive games of his career. He went 4-5 with a walk, single, two doubles, and another home run making that two on the weekend. He scored two runs and hit in three.
In total, Burk went 7-10 with two home runs, six runs batted in, and four runs scored. He got on base in 77% of his at-bats and even added a stolen base to his incredible weekend.
On a historic note, this marks the first time in program history that a player has been given Student-Athlete of the Week recognition.
The Student-Athlete of the Week award is chosen by the NCCAA and recognizes the play of student-athletes in their respective sport. BJU is NCCAA DII member featuring 13 varsity programs and over 150 student-athletes.
