The Women's Basketball Team Falls on the Road to the Wildcats

In a road contest in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Bob Jones University Bruins fell in a 68-52 result to Johnson & Wales University on Tuesday evening. With today's result, the Bruins now sit at 4-8 on the season. 

As today's game got underway, Faith Hayward got the opening basket to get the scoring started. Through the next three minutes, the two programs exchanged buckets until JWU went on an eight-point run before Imani Pouncey drained her shot from the three-point line. In the final minute of the first quarter, the Bruins pulled within two points of the Wildcats to close out the quarter trailing 17-15. 

Johnson & Wales continued to grow their lead as they held the Bruins without a basket through the first six minutes. In the second frame, the Wildcats outscored the Bruins 20-10 to lead 37-25 going into halftime. 

BJU had their work cut out for them after the break. Throughout the third quarter, Jenna Brooks led the team with six points as the team finished with 11 points in the frame to the Wildcats' ten. 

In the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, the Bruins battled their way back to close the deficit. With 6:30 remaining, Anna Layne Wylder sank a three-pointer to put the Bruins within three points. The Wildcats pulled back ahead and at the final buzzer took the win with a 68-52 result. 

Anna Layne Wylder led all players with 20 points. Jenna Brooks finished with 11, and Keely Price totaled eight on the night. 

"It was a great effort tonight after a tough game this weekend, but we had too many costly mistakes," said Assistant Coach Sha'Ron Brunson. "We have to keep working on securing rebounds and taking care of the ball."

Up next, the Bruins will travel to Tennessee for a Friday night contest against Maryville College.
