The Bob Jones University women's basketball team fell on the road against a tough Maryville College Scots program. After four quarters of play, the final score read 72-47 in favor of the Scots.
As today's game got underway in Maryville, Tennessee, the Scots got off to a hot 14-0 start and held the Bruins without a basket through the first eight minutes of play. With 1:49 left in the first quarter, Faith Hayward broke the drought to get the Bruins on the board. As the first quarter wrapped up, the Bruins trailed the Scots 21-4.
The team continued to trail in the second quarter, but were able to put up 11 points led by Keely Price. At halftime the Scots led 42-15.
BJU regrouped after the halftime break and opened the third frame with back-to-back three-pointers by Hayward and Anna Layne Wylder. The team shot 44.4% from the field and went 4-4 from the free throw line in the third quarter.
Faith McClary opened the final 10 minutes with a basket from the three-point line. The Bruins continued to battle and outshot the Scots 18-11 through the final quarter. In the end, it wasn't enough as the team fell 72-47.
Price led the team with 10 points, followed by Hayward and Wylder with eight.
"There was much better decision making in the second half," said Assistant Coach Sha'Ron Brunson. "It was good to see better offense after a slow start. We have to keep working on getting better at the little things and let the rest take care of itself."
It will be a week before the Bruins are back on the court. The team hosts Clinton College next Thursday, January 29 at 4 p.m. in the Davis Field House.
