The Bob Jones University Bruins soared to a 72-59 win over NCCAA South Region opponents, Toccoa Falls College, Tuesday night in Toccoa Falls, Georgia. With today's win, the Bruins have improved to 6-9 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
The Bruins made their way to Georgia leading the all-time series against the Screaming Eagles 18-10, but before today's game hadn't put up a win against Toccoa Falls since the semifinals of the NCCAA South Region Tournament in February 2022.
It was a bit of a slow start to today's game, but as the first quarter began to wind down, the pace quickened and the two teams continued to exchange points. At the end of the first 10 minutes,the Bruins held a slight 17-15 lead.
After Toccoa Falls opened the scoring in the second quarter, Anna Layne Wylder sank a three-pointer to get the Bruins on the board and back in the lead. With five minutes left, Caitlyn Dickerson's three pulled the Bruins to an eight-point advantage forcing TFC to call a timeout. While the Screaming Eagles worked to close the deficit, at the end of the first half, the Bruins led 34-29.
After the halftime break, the Screaming Eagles worked to close the gap and trailed by just four at the end of the third quarter.
Over two minutes into the final frame, Toccoa Falls added three points to their score to pull within one. But Wylder responded with another three to keep the Bruins ahead. While the Screaming Eagles tried to take a lead, the Bruins held strong and pulled ahead late in the game. At the final buzzer, it was Bruins on top 72-59.
"I am proud of the team for not getting too rattled and finishing the game strong," shared Assistant Coach Sha'Ron Brunson.
The Bruins are back at home on Friday and Saturday for back-to-back region games against Southeastern Baptist College and Trinity College of Jacksonville inside the Davis Field House.
