Two Bruins basketball freshmen were named to the All-Freshman Team for the NCCAA DII South Region. From the men's team, Daniel Fuller was given the recognition while Jessiann Wiedmann was voted to the team from the women's team. The award is voted on by the coaches of the south region with five players from the men's and women's programs named to the teams.
Daniel Fuller burst onto the scene for the Bruins basketball team providing deadly shooting from outside. On the season, Fuller averages 8.3 points per game while shooting an impressive 43% from beyond the arc. His ability to hit key shots for the Bruins has been integral to the success over the course of the season as the Bruins finished the regular season with a 7-1 region record.
"I'm very happy for Daniel to receive this recognition from the coaches in our region," Bruins men's basketball head coach Burton Uwarow said. "He works hard and does things the right way while always looking to improve. We wouldn't be where we are this season without him and the impact he has had on our team this year."
Jessiann Wiedmann has provided a spark off the bench for the Lady Bruins as the freshman has made an immediate impact in her first year on the team. She has played in every game for the team this year while shooting 33% from the floor and being a force defensively.
"Jessiann has brought a lot of energy and ability to our team," Bruins women's basketball head coach Mike LeViere said. "She continues to show improvement and for her to be recognized by other coaches in the region is a special accomplishment in her freshman year."
Both Bruins basketball teams earned the #2 seed for the NCCAA DII South Region Tournament this weekend. The women will play their tournament in Pensacola, Florida as they battle #3 seeded Trinity Baptist College on Friday night. The men's team will face #3 seeded Johnson University of Florida in Kissimmee, Florida on Friday night.
The BJU Bruins feature fifteen varsity programs and are seeking membership in NCAA D3. The program is currently affiliated with the NCCAA as a Division II institution.
