The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) announced the annual Game Plan 4 Life (GP4L) Award for Division II women's volleyball will be renamed the Dr. Vickie Denny Award. The award honors Dr. Denny and her long and faithful service to the NCCAA, particularly in the sport of volleyball.
"Dr. Vickie Denny has established a level of excellence not only in women's volleyball but in coaching period," NCCAA President Dan Wood said. "Her competitive sport legacy speaks for itself but her generational impact on her players, peers, and colleagues will only be witnessed in eternity."
Coach Denny has over 40 years of coaching experience where she has amassed over 1,100 career wins. She has won 17 NCCAA DII National Championships in her career, including winning eight-straight titles at Clearwater Christian College (CCC). Coach Denny is a member of the NCCAA and CCC Hall of Fames and was hired to begin the Bruins women's volleyball program at BJU in 2016.
Since then, Denny has been instrumental in leading the Bruins to five-straight NCCAA DII South Region Championships, three-straight NCCAA DII National Championships, as well as the program producing ten All-Americans.
Aside from her numerous accomplishments in competition, Denny has impacted thousands of lives as a coach, teacher, and mentor. She serves as a board member for the NCCAA and has been involved in leadership positions both academics and athletics throughout her career. She currently also serves as the Bruins Senior Woman Administrator.
The purpose of the Dr. Vickie Denny Award is to annually honor the outstanding Division II women's volleyball player selected from the NCCAA member institutions. The award recipient demonstrates a clear Christian testimony on and off the court as well as demonstrated Christian service during her student-athlete career. The recipient also displays excellence in skills and leadership ability while also demonstrating excellence in academics.
"I count this recognition a high honor as the Game Plan 4 Life award from the NCCAA captures the real reason I coach," Coach Denny said. "My desire is to see young ladies grow in their love, integrity, faith and excellence, using the sport of volleyball as the platform. God has been very good to allow me to do what I love to do and I am thankful for the young women I have had the privilege to coach at three different NCCAA institutions during my coaching career."
BJU is a provisional member of NCAA DIII and an NCCAA member. The BJU Bruins feature 12 varsity programs and over 200 student-athletes.
