Skelton and Vander Hart Named to All-Region First Team

Justin Skelton and Shad Vander Hart have been named to the All-Region First Team for their dominance on the court this season.

Skelton has had such a special sophomore season. His midrange turnaround jumper is nearly impossible to guard, and the Bruins know they can rely on him when they need a bucket. On the season, Skelton has averaged 18.1 points per game and has scored over 30 points four times. He has averaged nearly 21 points per game against region opponents. In perspective, Skelton averaged 5.2 points as a freshman but his offseason training excelled his game to a different level. As a sophomore, he helped lead the Bruins to another #1 seed in the region tournament.

"The leap Justin took from his freshman year to sophomore year is remarkable," Head Coach Tony Miller said. "All year, coaches at every level – NCAA D1, D2, D3, NCCAA – praised his skill. It's great to see his behind-the-scenes work be recognized and rewarded."

Joining Skelton on the All-Region First Team is teammate and South Region Player of the Year Shad Vander Hart. He has also had an incredible senior season to cap off his collegiate career. Averaging 19.2 points and 11 rebounds per game, Vander Hart has led the Bruins to some big wins throughout the year. His presence in the paint and ability to drive strong to the basket has given opposing defenses a hard time this season.

"Shad has been a relentless worker over his four-year career at BJU," said Coach Miller. "I'm proud of the way he has represented our program and school."

These two players together have combined for over a third of the Bruins points scored this season. Most teams try to stop one of them, but it is rare to slow them both down in the same game. Now Skelton and Vander Hart look ahead with their team to this weekend's region tournament where the Bruins are going after their third straight region title.

The Bob Jones University Bruins are part of the NCCAA featuring 13 varsity programs and over 200 student-athletes.
